The goal of the Association is the improvement of the quality of orthopedic medical care in the Republic of Armenia

Tasks of the Association
  • demonstration and defense of the rights and rightful interests of its members, provision of consulting, methodological and other means of help with the intent to improve the efficiency of their medical practice
  • joint decision making on questions of interest
  • defense of intellectual property rights of its members
  • provision of legal aid to its members
  • development and presentation of consolidated position in governing bodies and NGOs
  • aid in creating conditions for cooperation with specialized professional organizations from abroad
  • organization of information exchange between its members aimed to improve effectiveness of their practice
  • organization of activity of the Association in mass media, including its own web resources

Rules of professional ethics of orthopedists and traumatologists

The main goal of orthopedics is to take care of the patient's interests. The main focus of all provisions of medical ethics is the regulation of
the relationship between doctor and patient. An orthopedist must provide appropriate medical care within his jurisdiction of his competence,
showing compassion and concern for the patient.

The doctor-patient relationship should be based on mutual trust, honesty and confidentiality.

An orthopedic doctor’s any activity must be carried out within the framework of the current legislation.

Orthopedic doctor must preserve his dignity and reputation, be truthful with patients and colleagues. Show intolerance towards dishonesty,
incompetence, deception etc of doctors and medical staff.

For an orthopedic doctor, it is mandatory to respect the opinion of colleagues and maintain continuity of treatment when the patient refers
his problem to different specialists. The doctor does not have the right to express his opinion in front of the patient about the quality and
effectiveness of the treatment previously performed by other specialists.

The orthopedist is obliged to take all possible measures for a thorough examination of the patient in accordance with the modern
development of medical science and technology.

Based on the results of the comprehensive examination, the orthopedist is obliged to inform the patient or the person responsible for the
patient about the diagnosis, possible treatment options, as well as possible consequences related to treatment or refusal.

The patient has the right to receive complete and objective information about the need for surgical intervention, its goals and methods of
implementation, alternative methods of treatment.

If for some objective reasons the doctor is unable to continue the treatment of the patient, he must take measures to ensure the further
quality treatment of the patient by a qualified specialist.

Orthopedist-traumatologist has the right to use in his work only the methods of conservative and surgical treatment, which he knows, to the
extent necessary to provide high-quality medical care at the modern level.

In cases where the physician's skills and experience cannot provide the appropriate level of care for a particular patient, the orthopedic
trauma surgeon must take steps to involve specialists with the appropriate experience and skills in treating the patient.

If the conditions do not permit the patient to receive medical care at a modern level, the doctor must take measures to send the patient to a
clinic of the appropriate profile.

An orthopedic doctor is obliged to constantly improve his professional knowledge and skills, to follow new tendencies in the development of
orthopedic science, and to strive to introduce new proven methods into his work that can improve the results of patient treatment.

To ensure optimal treatment conditions for the patient, the orthopedic doctor must strive to maintain a practical and friendly environment in
the team, promoting trusting relationships between doctors, nurses and junior medical staff.

Controversial issues regarding ethically dubious behavior, professional incompetence, improper treatment of colleagues or patients by an
orthopedic doctor should be submitted for discussion to the professional society (the Society of Orthopedic Traumatologists) or the medical
ethics and deontology commission.

In cases where an orthopedic doctor deals with an expert opinion on the quality of medical care provided in controversial cases and in
conflict situations, he should base his judgments only on a comprehensive objective analysis of a specific case, without taking into account:
influence on the decision-making of the parties concerned with the conflict.

Orthopedic doctor has the right to self-promotion. It is unacceptable to provide false or untrue information about your professional
competence, as well as the competence of other doctors or medical institutions.

The orthopedist should not demand illegal payment from the patient or his relatives for treatment. The prescription of diagnostic or
treatment methods to be paid for by the patient should be determined only by medical expediency and not by the economic benefit of the
doctor or the medical facility.

It is unacceptable to impose on a patient medical services that are not necessary for his illness, as well as pharmaceutical or biological
drugs with an unproven mechanism of action and side effects.

In the case of the uncertainty of the quality of the previous diagnosis or the lack of the possibility of quality treatment and care in the
postoperative period, the orthopedist does not have the right to perform surgical intervention.

The orthopedist must provide the patient with objective information about the performed surgical intervention, its results, features,
encountered difficulties or complications important for further treatment.

Scientific clinical research must be conducted in accordance with ethical and legal standards, with the knowledge and consent of the patient,
who has the right to refuse participation in the research at any time.

Appropriating someone else's opinion, discoveries, or inventions is unethical. It is unacceptable to use materials of other authors in printed
works without indicating the source of information (plagiarism).

The responsibility for the reliability of published results of scientific and clinical research rests with the director of this research (actual
author).

The orthopedic doctor should strive to promote knowledge that will improve not only the health of the individual patient, but also the health
of society as a whole. Obliged to share scientific knowledge and practical skills with his colleagues, if the latter are interested.

The work of an orthopedic physician should encourage the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and participation in programs to fight against injury incidence and violence.

The orthopedist is obliged to respect the principle of the patient's choice of doctor and medical institution, not to use unethical levers
(coercive, third-party mediations and so on).

The orthopedist is obliged to help his colleagues in performing their professional activities, in difficult domestic and other difficult situations.
